Beginners Week 1 with the beginners went absolutely wonderful. We learned things from knots, to the wind clock, to parts of the boats, and had loads of fun doing the swim test! The beginners class show off their super smarts as we cruise through lesson plans and are able to end the day with games like sailing jeopardy. We look forward to next week as we will begin with tacking and end the day with the capsize test!
Intermediates Week 1 with the Intermediates was excellent, we covered the fundamentals of the program. They got to review information from the previous years including; tacking, wind clock, and knots. They learned about the new boats they'll be sailing this year, a club 420. This week was important for the kids because they learned how to rig and derig their new boats. This week Friday, our intermediates had their first experience in a 420 when we did the capsize drill. We as instructors were impressed by the students' bravery during the test, they all took it like champs.
,Racing Tactics Week 1 of Racing Tactics has proved to be a windy one! On Tuesday everyone got to sail a windward leeward course. With the heavy winds, we talked about depowering our sails in order to stay upright and be as fast as you can. The laser racers especially had a blast capsizing at least 5 times each! Thursday proved to be too cold to sail as we went out in the morning but had to come back in. In replacement of sailing, we talked about proper sailing gear, control lines, feathering, ease hike trim, trapping, right of way rules, spinnaker depowering, protests, and told Tales of the Sea. We are excited to announce that we have our first regatta Monday and wish our racers good luck!
