Beginners This week with beginners we had brave sailors as they completed the capsize test. The class continues to impress with their smarts and skills as we reviewed the fundamentals before heading out on the water. With that being said the beginners got their first day out on the water this last week. They practice our tacking and right of way skills on a figure eight course. We look forward to seeing how the class continues to impress us out on the water in the following week.
Intermediates Week 2 of intermediates was a windy one. Unfortunately we had one less day of lessons because of the Queens Cup, but our Monday and Wednesday practices were great. We got out on the water and learned the basics of tacking, correct tiller extension usage and boat placement, and utilizing the wind clock while on the water. The kids did great and were all enthusiastic about getting out and sailing. Week two was extremely important because we began to establish the building blocks of being a good sailor in any boats and conditions.
Racing Tactics It was a great week for Racing Tactics. On Tuesday we focused on mark roundings, starts, and gybing/tacking on the whistle. Unfortunately, a storm blew in in the afternoon and we had to quickly sail back in. On Thursday, not all of our students were there as some were racing at Wente Cup. With the students we had, we introduced a new drill that focused on quick spinnaker setting and dousing. In the afternoon we did our weekly summer series where the kids were able to practice racing and also get the chance to race each other. The week was overall very successful!
