Sailing Classes Beginner Optis This class is for children 8 years old and up with minimal or no sailing experience. Three-hour classes meet three times a week in the junior clubhouse and on the water. All Juniors must pass a swim test and demonstrate a comfort level in and around the water. The course teaches sailing fundamentals, nautical terminology, knot tying, basic dinghy rigging and how to understand the nuances of wind speed and direction.
Intermediate Optis This course provides a smooth transition from beginner optis to advanced racing optis. The class will meet three times a week. In this course, Juniors will learn the fundamentals of how to rig, sail, and race a racing opti. The class focuses on specifics and tactical aspects of the boat so Juniors are prepared to transition into an advanced racing opti class the following year.
Beginner 420's This class is for children who have little or no sailing experience but have grown out of an Opti. Three-hour classes meet three times a week in the junior clubhouse and on the water. All juniors must pass a swim test and demonstrate a comfort level in and around the water. The course teaches sailing fundamentals, nautical terminology, knot tying, basic dinghy rigging and how to understand the nuances of wind speed and direction. Because the 420 is a two person boat, Juniors will gain cooperative learning skills and good sense of teamwork.
Intermediate 420's This class is for graduates of beginner training as well as Juniors who grow out of advanced racing optis. The course meets three times a week for three hours. Juniors will learn the fundamentals and tactics of a 420. They will learn to become comfortable as both a skipper and a crew and most importantly how to work as a team.
Advanced / Racing Team Open only to Juniors who have completed both a beginner and intermediate class. Class meets twice a week for seven-hour sessions on and off the water. The boats sailed within this course are Racing Optis, 420s, and Lasers. This track teaches detailed technique for championship competition.
